Through the Year in my back garden

This year, due to illness, I was unable to spend so much time working on the garden which meant that it was largely left to its own devices. However, being a wild garden, it didn’t really seem to matter!

I was able to introduce a few new plants of which my favourites were the native variety of Viper’s Bugloss which I grew from seed – it was a great favourite of bees and flowered for several months, the flower buds changing from pink to blue as they open; and the attractively named Fox and Cubs (Orange Hawkweed), which was a gift from a friend who found it growing in her lawn. The salsify appeared all by itself and just looked like a stem of grass until it formed a flower bud, then it opened into a most unusual flower and produced a very attractive seed head.
